Time to phone your congressperson!
This morning (Sept 13th), Peace Action is asking for concerned citizens to get in contact with their congressional representative to urge opposition to military intervention in Syria.
From their newsletter:
1) Please call the Capitol Switchboard today at 202-224-3121.
2) Follow instructions to reach your Representative in the House of Representatives, and then say (in your own words to the extent possible):
3) My name is ______________, and I’m a constituent from [YOUR CITY]. I’m calling to urge Representative ____________ to oppose President Trump’s threatened military strikes on Syria, which would be unconstitutional. I urge them to sign the bipartisan letter being circulated by Reps Barbara Lee and Walter Jones that asserts Congress’s exclusive power to authorize war. I also urge Rep _______________ to speak out against U.S. military intervention and in favor of the U.N.’s diplomatic efforts to address the crisis.
Any US intervention into Syria’s civil war would be in violation of U.S. and international law without authorization from Congress and the United Nations. We can’t enforce the international norm against chemical weapons use by flagrantly violating the international norm against unauthorized military interventions.
Reps Lee and Jones have been consistently good on this issue, working across the aisles to get people on board, but they need your voice to help push it past the goal line.
